Manufacturing processes of pharmaceutical products are very complex and highly demanding regarding product's quality and traceability. Osmotic Distillation (OD) should become a standard in coming years since it has already been validated for several applications in this industry (from ultrapure water production to the concentration of metabolites in fermentation brothes).

Figure on the right shows as an example that Bovine Serum Albumin -BSA- can be concentrated more than 8 times with a high recovery yield by means of OD.

 

 

The demand for natural products is strongly increasing in developed countries. Consequently, Cosmetic and Food companies are looking for new ingredients issued from biotechnology or vegetal extraction. OD represents the best solution for manufacturing natural ingredients. Since it operates at room temperature, it preserves sensitive biomolecules. Furthermore, this technology does not require any chemical.

 

Figure shows the superiority of  OD over the standard technique (vacuum evaporation) for the production of a Vitamin C concentrate. Colors and flavors are also more preserved, leading to high quality natural products.
